health alert for major cities Italian affected by smog . Critical situation for the emission of fine dust from urban transport: every citizen loses an average of 9 months of life to exposure to particulate matter. To launch this new alert is the European Centre for Environment and Health at WHO.
According to recent data, in 2010, 48 capoluoghi di provincia hanno superato il limite giornaliero di 50 microgrammi per metro cubo di polveri sottili oltre i 35 giorni consentiti dalla legge. La conferma arriva anche dalle stime dell'Agenzia europea per l'ambiente che riporta 17 città italiane tra le prime 30 città europee più inquinate, con Torino , Brescia e Milano ai primi posti della classifica.
E a Roma anche nei parchi la concentrazione media annua di polveri sottili rilevata è di oltre 30 microgrammi per mc, più alta della media europea (a 15) pari a 24,6.
